This event was recorded and will be posted here as soon as the recording is made available.
As we move the SWS 2021 Annual Meeting completely online, we look forward to offering you the same vibrant programming, impactful networking, and opportunities to reflect and connect over the emerging and important topics in our field. Centered around the theme Wetland Sciences 2021: Adaptation Drives Innovation, the virtual meeting will include opportunities for engagement, including symposia, contributed sessions, workshops, plenary sessions, and space to connect with other attendees from across the globe.
All presentations will be pre-recorded but broadcasted live. There will be a live, interactive Q and A after each session. In addition to participating in the live event, all attendees will have access to on-demand recordings following the live event.
The meeting program will now be spread out over the first two weeks of June, on Tuesday and Thursday, to ensure that content is delivered in more digestible segments. All sessions will be easily accessible on-demand for attendees to view at their own convenience.
Moving our face-to-face meeting to a fully virtual format presents us with the unique opportunity to create meaningful collaboration and the ability to reflect and connect with colleagues around the world. Because of this, our program reflects the different time zones of our attendees to the best of our ability. We hope that you will join us for this reimagined event and celebrate our collective resilience and dedication to tackling the world’s more challenging wetland management issues.
We look forward to welcoming you to the SWS 2021 Virtual Meeting in June!

The Student Section invites you to participate in this unique online event - by students, for students! This two day virtual conference will feature student lightning talks, networking opportunities, and highlights from SWS leaders on ways to expand your professional development in the Society. It will be hosted fully on Zoom and will be completely free for students to participate. We hope you will join us and consider sharing your research in the lightning talks!
The 2020 SWS Annual Meeting was a joint conference between the Canadian Land Reclamation Association (CLRA), the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) and the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS).
The proposed theme of the conference for 2020 is “From Reclaiming to Restoring and Rewilding”. It aims to stimulate discussions about the range of environmental management approaches advocated by the three hosting societies. Reclaiming is recognized and practiced by many industries, including mining and petrol extraction. Restoring is recognized most broadly around the world, and has been the main focus of SER. Rewilding, or bringing back to nature, allows us to dream. These terms also imply ideas of industry, science, practice, society and imagination. They run from the practical to the creative.
